The Asia Vulture Crisis: Parahawking
Sponsored by GIN Gliders
Parahawking - Pioneered by Scott Mason, the Himalayan Frontiers team and Sunrise Paragliding in 2001 - is the new buzz word in the Paragliding world.
Parahawking is essentially a fusion between the oldest sport in the world and one of the newest, whereby birds of prey are trained using the ancient art of Falconry to fly with paragliders and to guide them to thermals allowing them to enjoy long cross country flights with only a trained bird as his guide.

Falconry has always been closely associated with the conservation and protection of birds of prey. Falconers continue to lend their knowledge and expersise in areas such as captive breeding, health and disease, release programes and many others providing valuable resources and research for our raptors.
We are able to use our birds to educate, and offer a better understanding and apprecaition of birds of prey. By highlighting certain conservation issues we are able to bring these issues to the fore.
Over the years, our Parahawking adventures have attracted a great deal of attention from the likes of Time Magazine, National Geographic, CBS News to name but a few. It was this publicity that got the attention of the RSPB and Bird Conservation Nepal to aid them to highlight the Vulture Crisis in Nepal.
