Falconry is an age old tradition which dates back thousands of years. The true definition of falconry is the hunting of wild quarry in it's natural state using a trained bird of prey. Modern falconry is gaining in popularity and with advances in technology it is now more accessible then ever before. However falconry is a lifestle commitment which should not be entered into lightly therefore it is highly recommended for anyone wishing to practice falconry to take a course.

Our 4 day falconry course is designed to appeal to those who wish to learn more about the principles of falconry, who wish to pursue the art as a hobby or even for those who just enjoy spending time with birds of prey. Drawing from over 35 years experience as practicing and professional falconers and bird trainers, we will guide you through all aspects of keeping and training a bird of prey. 

We will cover subjects such as:

• Birds used for Falconry
• Bird of Prey Management and Husbandry
• Housing
• Hygiene
• Feed and food preparation
• Health
• Species suitability
• Purchasing your first bird
• Essential falconry equipment
• Picking up and carrying
• Feeding, manning and initial training techniques
• Weighing and weight management
• Flying to the fist on a creance
• Free flying and hunting training
• Laws and regulations

Our courses are a combination of hands on practical and classroom lessons. Birds used will be Harris Hawks and Common Buzzards however you will also get the chance to handle and fly other birds such as Vultures, Owls and Falcons. 

Location:

We are located in a beautiful part of Andalucia in Southern Spain where the climate is very agreeable for most of the year, even in the winter where the sun still shines and the daytime temperature averages around 10 degrees C.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is available at on of our partner B&B's nearby. Algodonales is the closest village. The village is centered around a church and square, typical of Andalucian villages. The are a number of restaurants and bars serving tapas and drinks till late in the evening.

Falconry Courses typically commence on 11am Monday and finish 4pm on Friday, with a free day on Wednesday. Dates can be flexible.
Overseas visitors, should arrive 1 day before the start date and plan to depart 1 day after in ends.
Airports to fly into are Malaga, Seville or Jerez.

Scott Mason is an internationally recognised and award winning bird trainer with over 35 years experience as a practicing and professional falconer. Scott started out his professional Falconry career as an instructor at the prestigious British School of Falconry in 1989. He later founded the Himalayan Raptor Rescue and Parahawking Project in Nepal which is now based in Spain.
