THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED
We are currently looking for a new assistant to join the Parahawking team in Nepal for the 2012-2013 season.
Your skills:
We are a small team of 5, including you, that will be running the
Himalayan Raptor Rescue and Parahawking in Nepal this season. The job
description is therefore for someone who is happy to muck in and do
anything in addition to being an excellent and experienced bird of prey handler or
trainer - this is not a traditional falconer’s position or for a paraglider. We are
looking for someone with good communication skills who is comfortable
giving presentations on Parahawking, bird of prey rehabilitation and
vulture conservation, to small groups of people on an almost daily basis.
You'll need to be hard working and highly motivated, a good team player,
fit and energetic, be trustworthy and have a mature outlook. But above
all, you must be a natural bird handler with a gentle hand and a
compassionate nature.
Your Role:
As the 5th member of the team, your role will be varied but your
priorities are to take care of the birds, feeding, weighing, cleaning,
general husbandry, preparing for daily flights etc. Parahawking tandem
flights are the mainstay of our business, we are busy all of the time.
The operation must run like clockwork and each team member has their
role to play. You will also be responsible for giving presentations to
small groups of mainly American and British tourists several times a week. These
presentations form part of our contribution to the the vital
conservation work we do. They normally last for no longer than 1 hour,
they are informal and fun and a good opportunity to raise awareness and
funds for Himalayan Raptor Rescue and vulture conservation. You will need to be on hand throughout the day to speak to guests, answer their questions, take bookings and generally be informative. You will also make regular fundraising visits accompanying small groups of tourists to the Vulture restaurant conservation project that Parahawking supports. You'll be required to write reports and collect data on vulture numbers.
We offer:
A once in a life-time opportunity to be doing something truly unique in
an exotic location. A chance to work with an experienced bird trainer,
of over 30 years, who have pioneered an activity where
passengers get to share the sky and intereact with trained vultures and
other birds of prey. You will come in contact with several of Nepal’s
many birds of prey through Himalayan Raptor Rescue, we are also closely
involved with Vulture Conservation in Nepal and
assist in the funding of selected vulture conservation projects.
This is a paid position, your accommodation and some living
expenses will also be covered whilst your salary will cover your other
reasonable expenses while in Nepal. You will cover your own airfare,
visa costs and travel insurance.
Ideally you can be available from the start of October 2012 till April 2013.
We want to give everyone who is interested the same
chance, but please only apply if you fulfill all the specific criteria
we have set out.
We are a team of highly trained and skilled paragliders and bird trainers. Please no time wasters!
If you are confident that you meet all of the criteria above and would like to apply, please email the following information to -
